Start with the kind of day you want
A festival can be the reason for a trip without filling every hour of it. Start with the film, music or neighbourhood atmosphere that interests you, then make the days either side easy. A late evening and an ambitious early-morning itinerary are not always good companions.
The calendar distinguishes a published edition from an individual session. An eleven-day film festival is not one film running continuously or a promise that every venue opens each day. Open the organiser’s programme, choose the actual screening and check its language before making the rest of your evening fit.
The dates that are actually published
Doclisboa runs 15–25 October 2026 and Alkantara 13–29 November 2026. MONSTRA has announced 11–21 March 2027; IndieLisboa 29 April–9 May; NOS Alive 8–10 July; and Queer Lisboa 17–25 September. The last is the Lisbon edition, not Queer Porto.
We would start with one screening or concert, then choose where to eat nearby. Look at the individual programme before filling the gaps: a film’s language, the venue and the time it finishes can make more difference to the evening than the festival’s name. Let the event you want set the pace.
Leave unannounced seasons flexible
June neighbourhood celebrations, winter lights and New Year’s Eve deserve planning space, but a familiar annual name is not evidence of next year’s schedule. Keep the seasonal boxes as ideas for now, and save the firm dates when the programme is ready.
The Wonderland listing checked for this guide still describes 2025–26, and the Royal Palace New Year listing welcomes 2026. Jazz em Agosto’s checked presentation also describes its 2026 edition. Those pages help identify the event; none is a new announcement for the following season.
Choose your base by the journey home
For an event-heavy trip, compare the public neighbourhood guide with the actual venue rather than choosing a room just because it says central. Ask how the entrance, late return and final walk work for your dates. A map distance alone does not describe steps, a hill or a closed station entrance.
For NOS Alive, keep the Algés waterfront separate from Lisbon city-centre nightlife. For a cinema festival, the useful base may depend on which screenings you select. For Santos, ask about celebrations on the immediate street if sleep matters to you; no whole neighbourhood can promise quiet.
Book the anchor, leave room around it
Make one firm anchor for the day: a particular concert, performance or screening. Save its venue and entry information before heading out, and agree a meeting point with anyone joining later. Leave a proper pause for food instead of trying to eat inside every short interval.
The on-device planner can join guide places and published sessions into an outing; it does not reserve entry or replace the organiser’s rules. Keep the subscribed festival dates for the big picture, and the actual ticket for the precise event. They do different jobs.
