Cascais
Town, bay and lunch first; the coastal route towards Guincho is a longer outing.

A broad beach by São Julião da Barra Fort, with surf conditions to take seriously.
Praia de Carcavelos is a long beach on the coast outside Lisbon, with São Julião da Barra Fort at one end and a strong surf and bodyboard identity. Leave time for the journey from the station. Choose a shore walk or beach pause around the day’s conditions rather than assuming the sea will suit swimming.
Before you go
A longer outing — consider public transport or a taxi · from Baixa (public area reference)
Walking estimates use distance and endpoint heights, not surveyed streets or step-free routes.
Use the fort at the end of the beach as a landmark and leave time simply to be by the sea. This is also a surfing and bodyboarding beach, not a reason to assume calm swimming. Check the day’s conditions and allow for the station-to-sand part of the journey.
