Three rail legs. One destination.

Lisbon airport to Cascais

Lisbon airport to Cascais by public transport means a Metro interchange and then a CP train. It can work well with manageable bags, but compare the whole journey with a car quote before committing after a long flight.

Cascais

In short

From Lisbon airport to Cascais, take the Red-line Metro to Alameda, change to the Green line for Cais do Sodré, then take the CP Cascais-line train. The Metro and train use different fare products. Check the actual rail departure and your final address in Cascais, or compare a licensed taxi or app-car quote when bags or timing make the changes awkward.

Airport to Cascais by Metro and train

  1. At Aeroporto, take the Red line in the São Sebastião direction.

  2. At Alameda, change to the Green line towards Cais do Sodré.

  3. At Cais do Sodré, follow the CP train signs and use the Cascais-line departure for your day.

  4. At Cascais, continue to your actual accommodation or meeting point. The station is not every destination on the coast.

CP’s published daytime example from Cais do Sodré takes about 40 minutes. The airport Metro journey, interchange, train wait and final walk are extra. We would compare those changes with the group’s bags and energy before choosing.

Have the address available before leaving Wi-Fi. If it says Guincho, an outlying beach or another coastal stop, plan that last connection rather than assuming the journey ends at Cascais station.

Metro and CP are separate ticket decisions

The table compares products, not a combined through-ticket. Check what is already loaded on your occasional card and use a product that suits all the operators you plan to ride. Each person needs their own accepted ticket, card or device.

For a longer sightseeing day, compare the proper combined products before loading the card. Do not add several Metro alternatives together as if they were separate charges for the same ride.

When a car makes the changes easier

With bulky bags, a tired group or an awkward final address, compare a taxi or app-car quote for that destination. ANA lists app pickup at P2, Level 2, arrivals level; follow the point in your app and match the assigned vehicle.

Ask for the actual passenger and luggage capacity. Arrange child seats or an accessible vehicle when needed. A city-centre taxi example or airport voucher zone is not automatically a Cascais quote.

Keep the destination and pickup instructions available on your phone. If the arrival time changes, update the accommodation separately rather than assuming a transport booking also changes check-in arrangements.

Read the evening connection before leaving

The CP timetable includes replacement buses. Check the actual departure and any change before boarding the Metro, especially after a late flight. A daytime journey example is not enough to plan the final connection of the evening.

If public transport no longer fits, compare the direct car option from the airport rather than discovering the missing connection halfway through the journey. There is no fixed airport-to-Cascais duration on this page because waiting and the final address change the total.

For an early flight back, work backwards from airline check-in and bag-drop instructions, then verify the rail and Metro connection or arrange a car. Terminal 2 needs its own transfer allowance.

Keep the first Cascais afternoon easy

After travelling, the bay, the town and a meal can be enough. Save the outlying beach or second destination for a day when you are not carrying everything with you. If accommodation access is later, arrange luggage storage or bag drop directly with the accommodation before relying on it.

Our Cascais day guide compares the town, a cultural stop and Guincho. It is a more useful starting point than trying to add a Sintra palace to the afternoon you land.

Quick answers

How do I get from Lisbon airport to Cascais by train?

Use the Red-line Metro to Alameda, Green line to Cais do Sodré, then a CP Cascais-line train. Check the actual departures and your final connection in Cascais.

Is there a direct airport train to Cascais?

The public-transport route described here has a Metro interchange at Alameda and a change to CP at Cais do Sodré. Compare a car quote if those changes do not suit your bags or arrival time.

Does my Metro bank-card tap include the Cascais train?

No. The CP leg needs its own accepted ticket or zapping product. Check the full ticket choice before loading an occasional card or entering the gates.
