I have with about and I love

In short

Campolide is a residential Lisbon neighbourhood with the Águas Livres aqueduct as a reason to visit. Our three-stop outing starts at the aqueduct, continues to the Mãe d’Água reservoir in Amoreiras and finishes in the nearby garden. Choose the main visit first; guided underground walks have their own booking arrangements.

The feel of Campolide

We would give this outing a clear anchor: the aqueduct, rather than a long list of unrelated sights. Choose the visit that interests you, then leave time afterwards. The Water Museum’s public visiting sites and its booked guided walks are different ways to see the water heritage.

The route then moves beyond Campolide into Amoreiras. At Mãe d’Água, the reservoir and its architecture give the outing a different scale from the aqueduct. The garden is the place to slow down afterwards, rather than immediately finding another indoor visit to fit in.

One possible wander

Start at Calçada da Quintinha, then make your onward journey towards the reservoir and garden in Amoreiras. These are three separate public destinations. Choose their visiting arrangements individually; the street outing below is separate from EPAL’s guided underground programme.

  1. Aqueduto das Águas Livres

Begin at the aqueduct’s public visiting site; choose an independent visit or a separately booked guided walk.

  2. Reservatório da Mãe d’Água das Amoreiras

Continue towards the Amoreiras reservoir, where water brought by the aqueduct collected. Choose its own visiting arrangements.

  3. Jardim das Amoreiras

Finish outside in Jardim das Amoreiras, also called Jardim Marcelino Mesquita. Leave time to sit rather than add another ticket.

Eat & drink around the outing

Good to know

Use each site’s visitor information before setting off, and book a guided underground walk separately. The map pins identify public sites, not surveyed entrances. Leave the garden pause open, then choose somewhere for coffee when you are there.

Quick answers

What can we visit in Campolide?

The Águas Livres aqueduct is our main Campolide anchor. Continue towards the Mãe d’Água reservoir and garden in Amoreiras, keeping the neighbourhood change clear when choosing directions.

Do we need to book the aqueduct walk?

EPAL’s guided underground walks require advance arrangements. Choose those separately from an independent visit to the aqueduct or reservoir; the operator’s visiting details are linked at each stop.

Where can we pause after the reservoir?

Jardim das Amoreiras, also called Jardim Marcelino Mesquita, is the outdoor finish. The garden has a pond, a play area and a kiosk terrace; leave time to sit before choosing what comes next.
