Transport operators agree to develop wider contactless ticketing

Added 18 Oct 2026

Eight transport bodies signed a cooperation protocol to develop shared ticketing technology, the government reported on 30 September. Its first phase focuses on accepting contactless bank cards directly at validators and coordinating existing systems. The announcement describes a development project; it does not establish that a bank card already works on every service.

If you’re here: Check payment options for each operator on your route before travelling; a shared ticketing project does not replace today's ticket requirements.

A government update published on 8 September said Carris had received 29 fully electric buses the previous day, taking its electric fleet to 103 vehicles.
