Government reports progress on its immigration backlog
Added 18 Oct 2026
A government update published on 12 October reported that 98% of pending cases handled by its migration mission structure had been resolved. It said about 5,000 expressions-of-interest cases remained unfinished. The figures describe that backlog, rather than every type of immigration application.

First high-speed section marks a step towards Porto–Lisbon link
Added 18 Oct 2026
An 11 October government announcement scheduled work on the 71-kilometre Porto–Oiã high-speed section to begin the following day. It forms one part of the planned Porto–Lisbon line. The projected 1 hour 15 minute journey concerns the future completed connection, rather than a train passengers can book now.
If you’re here: Use current timetables for your journey. The archive photograph shows a CP suburban train, not the planned high-speed service.
