Less time at the gates.
Lisbon Metro: a simpler way across the city
Use the Metro for the longer part of a Lisbon day, then walk the bit you actually came to see. The useful choice is the ticket for your whole journey: a bank-card tap, prepaid credit and a combined day ticket are different products. Start with your destination, not the nearest ticket machine.

In short
The Lisbon Metro normally runs from 06:30 to 01:00 daily. A Carris/Metro single costs €1.90, a Metro bank-card journey €1.92 and a 24-hour Carris/Metro ticket €7.25. A new occasional support card costs €0.50. Use the same bank card or device at both gates, and check current line and lift notices before setting off.

Compare three ways to pay
Count separate journeys you would pay for, not every boarding. A valid Carris/Metro single can cover transfers within its conditions; do not count that same ticket twice.
The comparison needs JavaScript. The official fares and ticket conditions below remain available.
Standard 2026 adult prices, checked 18 October 2026. A day ticket runs from first validation, not midnight. No booking, payment or details are sent by this tool.
First choose how you will pay
The loaded Carris/Metro single is €1.90. It allows travel within 60 minutes under the product’s transfer rules, but not consecutive Metro entries. Zapping is prepaid credit with a Metro journey charged at €1.72. A change of operator can mean a new charge; do not treat a zapping balance as a combined ticket.
The €0.50 occasional card is the support for a loaded product, not the journey itself. Keep it for the rest of the trip. If it already holds a different ticket type or credit, ask before trying to load something else. One traveller needs their own accepted ticket or payment device.
Bank card or phone: use the same one twice
A Metro bank-card journey is €1.92. Take the chosen card out of your wallet, tap at entry and tap at exit. If you entered with your phone, use that phone again; the plastic card linked to the same account is not interchangeable for that journey.
Keep enough battery to finish and to show the device during inspection. This payment route does not load a Carris ticket or buy an onward CP train journey. For a day involving a tram or a coastal train, compare the relevant combined product before buying individual journeys.
Normal hours are not the last possible connection
The operator’s normal daily window is 06:30–01:00, including weekends and public holidays. Do not read 01:00 as a promise that you can start a cross-city, multi-line journey at the last moment. Secondary station entrances can also have shorter hours.
Open the current line notices before leaving, and leave time for the transfer and the walk at the far end. A saved network map is useful for orientation; it cannot tell you whether a lift or a particular service is running right now.
Read the end station, then the interchange
The Red line serves Aeroporto and Oriente. Follow the direction shown for your train, use the current diagram to choose an interchange, and confirm the next line before passing through a gate. The Metro map and a mainline railway ticket describe different networks.
With bags, choose the final approach as carefully as the station. A short line on a map can still leave steps or an uphill walk. Use the operator’s accessibility diagram together with current lift notices rather than assuming that every entrance has the same access.
Is a day ticket useful for you?
The Carris/Metro day ticket costs €7.25 and runs for 24 hours from its first validation, not until midnight. It can make a day of several separate journeys easier, but you may spend less by walking and buying fewer tickets.
The CP-urban and Cacilhas-ferry day products are separate choices at €11.40 and €10.35. Neither is the basic Carris/Metro ticket, and a CP urban product is not a ticket to Porto. Use the comparison above for the narrower city-only choices; check the exact extension when your day goes farther.
Quick answers
How much is the Lisbon Metro?
The 2026 loaded Carris/Metro single is €1.90, Metro zapping €1.72 and a bank-card journey €1.92. A new occasional support card costs €0.50 separately. These are different products, not three prices for an identical ticket.
What time does the Lisbon Metro close?
Normal daily operation is 06:30–01:00. Allow time for interchanges and the final walk; secondary entrances and current disruption notices may change your actual journey.
Can two people share one bank card on the Metro?
No. Each passenger needs their own card or device. Use the same physical card or same device at entry and exit, including when a phone and plastic card share the same bank account.
Does a Lisbon Metro ticket include the train to Porto?
No. Porto is an intercity journey with a separate CP ticket. The CP urban extension covers a different network; it is not an intercity pass.
